Asian American Day
Festival 1
Recap archive for AADay festival 1. That edition has ended. This is not a coming-event notice.
June 26, 2011 · Longfeng Restaurant, Quincy
The first Asian American Festival was held on June 26, 2011, at Longfeng Restaurant, Quincy.
The 2022 yearbook does not name a theme, a printed program, sponsors, or an attendance figure for this edition.
Program
The yearbook Organization Overview (English official PDF pp. 8–9; Chinese 亞美節 entry) records that the first festival invited Tianjin TV Station to visit Boston. The same sentence is repeated in the Klysler Yen interview in Chapter 3.
The chronology for 2011 records only the date and venue. It does not list performers.
Guests and organizers
The festival was hosted by the Association (then still using the English name AAA of Quincy; the office move and the English name Asian American Association of Boston are recorded on August 6, 2012).
Director Robert Wu’s yearbook profile says he took part from the first festival and was invited onto the board at the second.
A later press report on the 9th festival (Youping Wen, China-US Innovation Times, September 17, 2019) says Fang Liujun had volunteered at every festival from the first onward. That is a 2019 recollection, not a 2011 guest list.
Same year, not this festival
On February 20, 2011, the Association held a Spring Festival gathering at 28 Hatward St, Quincy, and announced the Asian American Art Troupe. The yearbook photograph in the 2011 block shows that New Year event (banner: Chinese New Year Event 2011 / Asian American Performing Arts Group). It is not a picture of the June 26 festival, so it is not used as a cover or gallery photo here.
This page is a recap of a festival that has already been held. It is not a notice of an upcoming event.
